In the stillness of the dawn on Sunday, May 6, 2018, Tommy Paul Justus
age 77 of Hurley, Virginia was ushered into the eternal light of his Heavenly
Father while surrounded by his loved ones.
Tommy P. was born on August 11, 1940, to Moses “Bud” and Gladys Cook Justus.
He was a graduate of Hurley High School, class of 1959, Pikeville College, class of
1963, and was a proud alumni of The University Of Virginia.
Tommy P. dedicated his life in service to Buchanan County Public Schools, from
teacher to principal , Director of Instruction and ultimately The Division
Superintendent. Tommy P. devoted over 50 years to local students and fellow
professionals, working tirelessly for the success of all. Away from his profession,
Tommy P. cherished time spent with his loving wife of 54 years, Bonnie Sue, and
relished every opportunity to spoil and encourage his children and grandchildren.
He maintained a life long love of the outdoors, cultivating beautiful gardens, and
tending his meticulous swimming pool for the enjoyment of family and friends.
Tommy P. delighted in attending sporting events and the special activities of
his grandchildren. He was an avid “Wahoo” well known for his sincerity and
expansive vocabulary, and adored his canine companion, Malachi.
Tommy P. was a member of the Roseann Evangelical Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers,
Ed, Ralph, and Benny Justus; two sisters, Rose Dotson and Naomi Nichols;
Nephews, Stevie Justus, David Justus, and Deputy C. Neil Justus.

Also surviving are special nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Funeral services for Tommy P. Justus will be held on Wednesday,
May 9, 2018, 1:00 P.M. at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel, Grundy,
Virginia, with Mike Rife and Curtis Stacy officiating, with burial to follow
at the Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Virginia.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6:00 P.M. at the Virginia Funeral Home, with a service held at 7:00 P.M.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Eric Brown, Jay Wallace, William Wallace,
Greg Wallace, Bobby Cline, Barry Cline, Kyle Brown, David Brown, Brock Nichols,
Brandon Nichols, TC Nichols, Daniel Brown, Mike Brown, and James “Jim” Brown.

Junior Nichols, Eddie Talbott, Paul Hayes, Bill Crigger, Jack Brown, Clarence Brown,

Tom Mullins, Franklin “Buster” Stacy, Dennis Dillow, Liz Justus, staff of the Special Care Hospice, Dr.Mann, staff of Bristol Regional Medical Center, Danny Brown, and Gerald Brown.

Mr. Justus Alma Mater, Hurley High School, 6339 Hurley Road, Hurley, Virginia 24620, to Sailors School, Hurley Elementary Middle School at 6911 Hurley Road, Hurley, Virginia 24620 in honor of his life of service and dedication to the Buchanan County Public Schools.
