Kermit Ellis Duty, age 79 of Grundy, Virginia went home to be with his Heavenly Father on July 8, 2018, at the Pikeville Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Born October 7, 1938, he was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County. He was the son of the late Ellis Duty and Wealthy Looney Duty. He was a loving husband to his wife Erma (Jean) Hurley Duty for 59 years, a devoted father, and grandfather. He was a retired surface miner. Kermit was a veteran of the United States Army where he served his country as an expert marksman and completed a tour of duty in Greenland. He was a member of the Little Prater Church Of Christ, where he served as a Deacon for 13 years. He loved music, playing guitar, painting, and maintained a life long, love of the outdoors.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Brenda
Bostic and niece Teresa Lee.

Funeral services for Kermit Ellis Duty will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, 1:00 P.M. at the Little Prater Church of Christ with Mike Rife, Troy Brown, and J.R. Justus, officiating with entombment to follow at Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock, Virginia.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6:00 P.M. at the church, where a service will be held at 7:00 P.M.
Serving as Pallbearers will be Kameron Ellis Duty, Michael Sykes, Stanley “Bub” Duty, Tim Lee, Pranav Shah, and Kyle Hall.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be nephews and great nephews, Junior Crouse, 9th Floor ICU Nurses Pikeville Medical Center, and special nurse Whitney Hamilton, Judy Skeens Physical Therapist, Richlands Home Health, and Rescue 33 Paramedics.
Military graveside rites will be conducted at the cemetery by VFW
Childs-Gentry Post 7360 and American Legion 164.
