Obituary for Ernest Hibbitts

Ernest Kyle Hibbitts, age 82 of Warrenton, Virginia passed away September 1, 2018 at the Fauquier Hospital in Warrenton, Virginia.

Born December 29, 1935 in Grundy, Virginia, he was the son of the late Joseph Henry Hibbitts and Minnie Elizabeth Collins HIbbitts. He relocated to Northern Virginia in 1961 with Beulah, his wife of 56 years. Ernest worked for Atlantic Research Corporation for 9 Years and as a chemist for Fairfax County, Virginia and retired after 32 years. He was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force for four years.
Ernest was an avid runner and ran several miles per day, even after turning 80. Fairfax County dedicated a running trail in his honor before he retired, and the Laboratory in which he worked is now named after him.
He enjoyed watching sports and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Billy Mahone Hibbitts, Keister Eugene Hibbitts, Richard “Dee” Hibbitts, and Arthur Ralph Stacy(Hibbitts); Three Sisters, Beatrice Joy Hibbitts, Janet Marie Hibbitts, and Joanne Stiltner; and son in law, Carl Jacob Mattes, Jr.

Nieces and Nephews include: David Hibbitts, Randall Lockhart, Paige Campbell, and many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Ernest Kyle Hibbitts will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018, 1:00 P.M. at the Virginia Funeral Home Chapel in Grundy, Virginia, with Billy Campbell officiating.
The burial will follow in the Hibbitt’s Cemetery at Grundy, Virginia.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Virginia Funeral Home.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Mark Hibbitts, Landan Hibbitts, Christopher Hibbitts, Bill Hibbitts, Robert Hibbitts, Preston HIbbitts, Bradley Hibbitts, and Chad Stiltner.

Virginia Funeral Home of Grundy, Virginia is in charge of the arrangements.
