Obituary for Rosie Matney (McCoy)

Rosie McCoy Matney, age 81 of the right hand fork of Guesses fork in Hurley, Virginia died Friday March 8, 2019 at Pikeville Medical Center Pikeville, Kentucky.

Born February 4, 1938 at Hurley, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Ira McCoy and Dicey McCoy Matney both of the Right Hand Fork, Hurley, Virginia. She married Charlie Matney also of the Right Hand Fork of Guesses Fork February 18, 1957 and was blessed with 41 years together as husband and wife, before his death December 17, 1998. Rosie was a dedicated Christian since August 30, 1977 and was a member of the Church of God In Jesus Name with Pastor Earnest Baker. She was of the Holiness/Pentecostal faith. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and a loyal friend. She was loved and respected by her family, her friends, and all who knew her. She will be sorely missed by all, but she will forever live in the
hearts and memories of those who cherished her.

In addition to her parents and husband, Rosie was preceded in death by an infant son, Terry Thomas Matney who died at 5days old; one daughter, Regina Carol Runyon; one sister, Josephine Lester; two Brothers, Ira McCoy, Jr. and Lester McCoy; step father/brother-in-law, Arnold Matney; and her only uncle, Leonard McCoy.

Rosie is survived by one son, Frankie Ray Lester; one daughter, Rebecca Lynn Matney; two granddaughters, Joni Ann Hamby and Emily Rose Skeens; one great granddaughter, Ava Mikell Hamby; one son-in-law, Gary Runyon; one step grandson, Christopher Runyon; one grandson-in-law, Michael Hamby; her son’s companion, Della Toler; Della’s two daughters, Heather Morgan and her husband Chris; their two children, Megan and Cameron; Tina Kenneda and her husband Darrick; their two children, Kyler and Rylee; and Della’s two nieces, Kendra and Shiranda; who were all so precious to her. She also leaves behind two sisters, Geraldine Whitt and husband Tracy and Virginia Lester; one brother, James McCoy and wife Ivory; one sister-in-law, Pauline McCoy; many nephews and nieces, great nephews and nieces, cousins, her only living aunt, Hazel McCoy; lots of friends, brothers and sisters in the church, other brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews, who are related by marriage that are too numerous to name each and every one, but who were so precious and dear to her and whom she treasured so very much.

Funeral services for Rosie McCoy Matney will be held on Tuesday March 12, 2019, 1:00 P.M. at the Virginia Funeral Home, Grundy, Virginia with Brother Doug Blankenship officiating, with singers Brother Doug and Sister Edna Blankenship. Burial will follow in the Charlie Matney Cemetery, Old Guesses Fork Road located beside the family home at Hurley.

The family will receive friends at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday before the funeral service at 1:00 P.M.

Serving as pallbearers will be nephews: Leslie McCoy, Stevie McCoy, David Joe McCoy, Daniel McCoy, Jamie Lester, Timothy Lester, Michael Paul Lester, Rodney Matney, Victor Matney, Bradley Matney, Ralph Matney, Jerry Matney; Great Nephews: Tanner Justice, J.R. Lester, Thomas McCoy, and Michael Andrew Lester; Brothers-in-law: Arnold Lester and Tracy Whitt; cousins: Jimmy McCoy, Terry McCoy, Randy McCoy, and Roger McCoy; special friends of the family: Don Justus, Randy Justus, Michael Justus, and Monroe Hardin.
